“This year is tagged as National Year of Rice which was pronounced by President Benigno Aquino. Along this line, the Department of Agriculture is working towards the goal of making our country as self sufficient in rice so that the Filipino people will eat the rice that is produced by the Filipino farmers and not imported from other countries,” Recoter said.

She emphasized that Filipinos waste about two table spoon of rice daily which supposes to feed 2.6 million people in a year. This wasted rice costs an estimated P6.2 billion but wasted due to ignorance and lack of knowledge.

“This is the reason why we need to make all Filipinos aware of the importance of every grain of rice in our table”, Recoter said. The run for rice activityis a simultaneous event conducted by all DA regional offices nationwide.(Aggie Media Service)
