The Damgo sa Kabukiran (countryside dream) program recognizes the importance of agriculture in making available food and other products necessary to sustain and enhance human life, and in providing livelihood to a major portion of the population.

“PRDP shares the same goal with the program of this town which is to increase the income of the farmers through the improved road access and later on reduce poverty in the area,” said DA XI Regional Director Abel James I. Monteagudo during the PRDP orientation for the newly elected local chief executives in the said municipality. Dir. Monteagudo is also the Project Director of the PRDP Program Support Office in Mindanao.

The interventions granted to the said LGU include the rehabilitation of the road connecting barangays Poblacion, San Isidro and Tacul worth P95.5 million, and the concreting of the road connecting the barangays Barayong, Mabini, Bala, and Upper Bala amounting to P140 million. These FMRs have been completed in 2019.

While the P163-million concreting of Crossing Blocon to Dalumay to Glamang road is currently under the pre-procurement stage.

“These FMRs will improve the economic activities in our municipality, encourage the farmers to continue farming and to achieve the common purpose of DA and the LGUs which is to attain food security,” according to Vice-Mayor Arthur Davin.

They have also availed of the enterprise subproject, the Cardava Banana Consolidation and Marketing Enterprise with a total amount of P9.9 million completed in February 2020.
There are two more proposed enterprise subprojects such as the Whole Nut trading and Coco Husk Chips Processing with an estimated cost of P17.7 million and the Cacao Bean Trading and Processing with estimated cost of P14 million.

“We are very thankful for the untiring support from the Department of Agriculture XI and for entrusting us these big projects funded by the World Bank through the PRDP,” said Mayor Ronnie Sarande.

Magsaysay is the only town in the province of Davao del Sur that was approved as a procuring entity in implementing the PRDP subprojects, following their significant position in terms of championing priority commodities.
