The Department of Agriculture – RFO XI through the Institutional Development Section of the Field Operations Division conducted Socio-Economic Livelihood Training on Poultry Meat Processing for thirty (30) women participants from Barangay Madaum, Tagum City, Davao del Norte on August 16, 2022. The Animal Product and By-Products Unit headed by Marivel M. Collado handled the lecture - demonstration on the processing of poultry meats.

Tocino, embutido, siomai, and chicken ham were the end products of the training and the participants took part in the preparation and cooking. Afterward, they tasted the products with relish and pleasure.

This training for Muslim women is among the activities lined up by Civil Military Operations Unit – Eastern Mindanao, Philippine Navy’s 2- month deployment in the barangay where Muslim insurgents are said to abound. Additionally, this was identified by the women themselves as one of the issues and concerns during the needs assessment. It is worth noting that they are members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Tagum City State Revolutionary Committee (TCSRC).

In summary, the series of activities in Madaum is to promote, build, and sustain peace in the community and also holds true to Philippine Navy’s relentless advocacy on Preventing and Countering Radicalization and Violent Extremism (PCRVE) which is making inroads in reducing insurgency. In short, in support of EO 70 otherwise known as the Whole of Nation Approach in achieving peace and order in our country.

The active involvement of the LGU particularly the Barangay Council of Madaum made this event successful as it provided vehicles to ferry participants to DA Fr. Selga where the training took place and afterward, to drive them back to their respective residents in Tagum City. The Philippine Navy likewise took it upon itself to closely coordinate with FOD-IDS headed by Luz Elda P. Ramos for the smooth conduct of this one-day activity.
