Quarantine Services
Southern Mindanao,
particularly Davao City possesses an enormous potential of livestock
resources to supply the needs of the whole island of Mindanao.
It is one of the major supplier of livestock and poultry products
to the consumers in the country.
Its major role
is to make the region a conducive place for livestock industry.
Vital measures are being undertaken to prevent the possible entry
animal disease which can affect the industry. It also monitors
and conducts preventive measures in all entry points including
different livestock establishments to establish and maintain
the entire region as a disease free area.
Basically, as
enumerated hereunder are the functions and services rendered
by Veterinary Quarantine, to wit:
a.) Enforcement
of existing Veterinary Quarantine Laws, Rules and Regulations;
b.) Check and regulate movements of animals and its by-products
to prevent the spreading of animal pest and diseases;
c.) Inspect foreign vessels and aircrafts for possible presence
of unwanted/restricted or prohibited animals and its products
capable of harboring animal pests and diseases;
d.) Quarantine all imported animals;
e.) Inspect and confiscate illegally imported animals and
its products, as well the restricted/prohibited ones;
f.) Inspect all domestic vessels and aircrafts for
the presence of quarantinable animal and its products from areas
declared under quarantine;
g.) Inspect all animals prior to their shipment to determine
whether they are free from pests and diseases;
h.) Conduct regular inspection of livestock and poultry
establishments for disease monitoring and surveillance;
i. ) Establish quarantine checkpoints in regional
and city boundaries to prevent entry of animal pests and diseases;
j. ) Installation and putting up of Foot Baths at different
ports/airports of entry;
k.) Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies, local
government units and non-government organizations in the implementation
of quarantine laws, rules and regulations;
l. ) Conduct inspection of quarantine sites
for accreditation;
m) Conduct information drive on animal disease control and
prevention;
n.) Spray and disinfect livestock vans from Luzon and Visayas;
o.) Coordinate with shipping lines regarding proper disposal
of their garbage, left-overs which are possible carriers of animal
diseases.
