In light of reports of plastic-like substances allegedly coating imported mackerels which surfaced in social media, Department of Agriculture in Davao Region (DA-XI) and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources XI (BFAR-XI) clarified that Davao City is cleared from such issue during a meeting in DA compound on Friday afternoon.

The Department of Agriculture XI thru its Philippine Rice Information System Management (PRISM) technical staff recently conducted a field validation among the major rice producing municipalities in Davao Oriental.

Using a drone and smartphone application, the ground observations will supplement the given satellite data on rice and non rice areas in the region.

"It will greatly help the decision makers, farmers, AEWs and project implementers to prepare for and mitigate the effect of recurring disasters. This technology will help us improve program implementation by carrying out appropriate interventions to the right beneficiaries," said Engr. Arvin Aquino Bravo, DA XI alternate focal for PRISM.
