The Department of Agriculture in Region XI (DA-XI) has prepared at least 17,000 bags of corn seeds to serve as buffer stocks for the year 2017.
This year, DA-XI has a buffer stock of 14,698 bags of open pollinated variety (OPV) seeds of which half of this were already distributed to farmers affected by the recent drought.
“There is at least 10% annual budget for the all regional offices in the country for the buffer stocking of rice and corn intended as replacement seeds for affected areas and farmers. We are just being ready,” said DA-XI Director Remelyn Recoter.
