The city has been a consistent major producer of cacao beans in the entire Davao region, producing a total of 2,289.74 MT from 2015 to 2019.

Sec. Dar congratulated Mayor Sara Duterte for her leadership, and also recognized the efforts of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in advancing the cacao industry in Davao region. Dar also promised to help the private sectors every step of the way, and urged fellow Filipinos to invest in cacao.

In her acceptance speech, Mayor Duterte thanked the cacao industry players for their efforts, bringing Davao City recognition from the national government.

Mayor Duterte ensured that the goal of the local agriculture is to make it a viable and sustainable industry for the farmers and stakeholders.

Davao City was also awarded P300,000 for winning as the Most Outstanding City in the Regional Organic Agriculture Achievers Award (ROAAA) 2020. City Agriculturist Leo Brian Leuterio received the cheque in behalf of the city.

Neptali V. Buhawe was also awarded as the Most Outstanding Organic Agricultural Extension Worker (AEW), and Janel N. Juaton as the Organic Agriculture Young Farmer.

Sec. Dar also awarded the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) scholarship with the ATI-XI Center Director Dante G. Esguerra, and slots under the KAYA program during the ceremony. | Reicza Olojan, RAFIS XI
