This came after the Department of Agriculture through its Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) has turned over its first tranche of funding assistance to Tapak Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (TFMC).

"Of the P13.4-million assistance, a total of P3.8-million machineries were turned over to the TFMC which include one unit tractor with wheel trailer, 8 units abaca spindle stripping machine, and 4 units weighing scale to expand their production area and improve processing of abaca fiber," DA-PRDP XI Business Development Officer Warj Dalagan.

He said more interventions are coming which include four processing facilities in four various sites within Tapak village and a hauling truck that will ease hauling and consolidation of abaca fiber from remote areas including the delivery of their final products to their regular and would be markets.

DA-XI Regional Executive Director Ricardo Oñate,Jr. commended the Davao City government for its counterpart assistance and in fast tracking the compliance of documentary requirements from TFMC of which majority of its members belong to indigenous tribes.

"This abaca enterprise project promotes inclusivity by giving our indigenous tribes access to economic oppotunities. We hope this project can provide them [IPs] sustainable source of income while conservibg their culture and ancestral domain ," he said during the turnover a simple ceremony held August 20 in Tapak barangay center which he stressed was just in time for Kadayawan commemoration that honors our cultural diversity.

Oñate who is also the concurrent PRDP Project Director for Mindanao urges the beneficiaries to unite and cooperate "aron makalahutay ang inyong proyekto" (for the project to be sustained).

Under the Investment in Rural Enterprise and Agriculture and Fisheries (I-REAP) component, the TFMC's Abaca Production and Marketing project has a total funding amount of P13.4- million.
