This potential has made the hybrid rice a major component in the government's strategy in increasing production given the limited land area harvested to rice. An increase in harvest also translates to lower cost per unit output, thus higher farm income.
Data however shows that income derived from production alone is not enough to provide for the needs of a household with five members.
Thus, the CHRF is conceived to introduce practices that would allow farmers to derived income from agricultural value-chain activities.
