The said activity was kicked off with a boodle fight (eating an overflowing pork lechon) joined by the hog industry stakeholders in Davao region.
It was graced by the Regional NMIS Officer in Charge Dr. Rolando M. Marquez and Agriculture Regional Regulatory Division Chief Martinet Roble.
Marquez said that the fear of eating pork is expected when there are no assurances from proper government authorities that meat, particularly pork, is safe.
"The NMIS as the sole regulatory agency tasked to regulate the safety of meat, is obliged to inform consumers that the fear of eating pork during these times is unfounded and has no basis at all," Marquez said.
He added that the Department of Agriculture and NMIS along with other government agencies are focusing on a farm-to-table approach as an effective means of ensuring food safety.
The activity is also a declaration that Mindanao is sufficient in terms of pork supply and free from African Swine Fever (ASF) and any other related diseases. via eve deligero/rafis-11
