Rienel Sabornido of Brgy. Alegre, Bansalan, Davao del Sur takes advantage of their village's high elevation (1,550 masl) and cool climate and maximizes the use of his fertile farm by intercropping Arabica coffee with Granola potato.

"While Arabica coffee thrives well in my farm, I cannot depend on the said crop alone as it has its lean season. To maximize my area, I plant potato in between. It helped me reduced the cost of inputs as fertilizers applied on potato is also absorbed by my three-year-old coffee trees," he said.
Sabornido is one of the recipients of the certified and high-quality Granola Seeds from the Department of Agriculture XI and Universal Robina Corporation's "Sustainable Potato Program."

In just more than 100 days from its launching, Sabornido and other farmer-recipients harvested at least 2-2.5 kg per plant which more than doubled their usual yield of only less than 1kg.
