To further serve the farmers and fisherfolks this month, DA designated Epifanio Loyola Jr. and Quirsito Cajegas as farmer and fisherfolk directors respectively.
Loyola who is also the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council (RAFC) Chair and apiculture champion stressed the importance of pollinators particularly bees as farmers' partners in food production.
Cajegas for his part, he urged the fisherfolk's to protect fish sanctuaries in the region being the shelter for protection of fish for its natural propagation.
Director Ricardo Oñate expressed gratitude to the farmers and fisherfolks as well as the local government units (LGUs) for their untiring support to DA especially in securing food in the region.
“We thank them for trusting the technologies we have offered. We will continue to provide interventions that can help especially our small farmers and fisherfolks,” he adds.
He said DA will be forever thankful to the farmers and fisherfolks who provided food to the region and he assured them that DA will continue to help them through its program.
DA has lined up several activities for the month-long celebration through its banner programs. These includes lecture and trainings at DA conference from May 6 to 10, 2019 and provincial celebrations on the following dates: May 23-Compostela Valley Province, May 27-Davao del Norte, May 28-Davao Occidental, May 29-Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental and on May 30 in Davao City.
A Grand Farmers Fiesta will also be held at the Davao Region Central Experiment Station (DaRCES) in Manambulan, Tugbok District, Davao City on May 17, 2019.
