DA allocates P70-M to fund Davao Food Terminal Complex

The Department of Agriculture in Region XI  (DA-XI) has completed its allocation of P70-million fund for the construction of Davao Food Terminal Complex (DFTC) in Daliao,Toril.

This came after DA-XI  turned over the P14-million check as the final tranche of funds downloaded to the City Agriculture Office on Monday (December 18) at Davao City Hall.

The establishment of DFTC aims to improve farmer-consumer trading market thru organized and strengthened farmers’ organizations.

The first tranche which is 50 percent of the fund was downloaded in September 2015 for the mobilization and completion of at least 25 percent of the project. It was then followed by the turnover of P21 million check in August this year.

DA thru its Agribusiness Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) is part of the infrastructure monitoring which was created to ensure the effective planning, design, and construction of the DFTC.

DA-XI Regional Director Ricardo M. Oñate, Jr., said the project is part of three primary supports from DA for farmers to be productive and have a sustainable source of income: technology, financing, and marketing.

“We made sure that our farmers will never have a hard time selling their goods. They just have to deliver it to DFTC and they will be paid immediately,” Oñate said.

The said terminal will be opened next year and the City Government will oversee the operations of DFTC until the formation of farmers’ cooperative and association who will sustain it.

Meanwhile, Senior Agriculturist Agnes Cecilia Roble assured that DA through AMAD will continue to provide needed interventions to capacitate farmer entrepreneurs. These include training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to make their products more competitive.
