Nat’l Organic Agriculture confab starts today

Spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture (DA), the 11th National Organic Agriculture Congress (NOAC) formally opens today at the SMX Convention Center, Davao City.

With the theme “Empowering the Filipino Family through Organic Agriculture”, the three-day confab event expects to gather about 1,900 organic agriculture practitioners, advocates, and experts.

Dignitaries who will grace the opening of the congress are Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, Lone District of Pasig Congressman Roman T. Romulo, Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat, alternate chair of National Organic Agriculture Board, DA Undersecretary for Operations Emerson U. Palad and Senator Cynthia Villar, Chairperson on Committee on Agriculture and Food.

During the opening day, the speakers will discuss about Philippine National Standards on Organic Agriculture, Healthy Diet on a budget and ASEAN Economic Integration: Opportunities and Challenges.

On the second day breakout sessions will be conducted which will focus on promoting agriculture and best practices through social entrepreneurship, utilization of food waste and urban spaces to activate organic agriculture in the barangay, organic banana production technology.

Also part of the breakout session, topics will include; kitchen specialty heirloom rice of Cordillera as niche market, organic agriculture and climate change and organic banana export market.

Among the highlights of the 11th NOAC is the awarding for the outstanding National Organic Agriculture Achievers and Farm tour on the third day for the participants. (Aggie Media Service)
