DA turns over farm tractor during Ugmad Fest in Tagum City

Along with the celebration of the 2nd UGMAD Festival in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Department of Agriculture (DA) 11 turned-over the P2.4 M four-wheel drive Tractor as a commitment of Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala to the city government.

Representing Sec. Alcala is Agriculture Regional Director Remelyn R. Recoter who said that the tractor is a grant from DA and also the commitment of Secretary Alcala which he made mention during the turn-over of the Diversion Dam in Balamban, Tagum City last March 6, 2014.

“We want to provide other farm machineries and post-harvest facilities as a requirement for the challenges which our farming sector is facing like climate change and the draining population of our farming community” Recoter emphasized.

Because the donation is in time with the 2nd Ugmad Festival, Recoter said that the activity is a venue of which farmers will enhance their knowledge on technology farm mechanization that will help increase production, lower the labor cost, and lower the post harvest losses .

She also emphasized that farmersshould be given due recognition since they are the lead players for the food security in the nation.

“Kung mag strike atong mga teacher,ang maapektohan ato lang mga estudyante kay walay magtudlo sa eskwelahan;  kung mag strike atong mga driver, ang mga commuters lang ang apektado; pero kung ang atong mga farmers and fishers ang mag strike ug dili na magtanum, kita tanan apektado kay wala ta kaunon, (If the teachers decided to conduct a strike, it’s only the students who got affected, if the drivers would also conduct transport strike, only the commuters are greatly affected, but if our farmers and fishers decided to conduct a strike, all of us will be affected for we don’t have any food to eat ” Recoter explained.

She added that farmers should be given much attention ang given due recognition for without them, all other industries are useless.

With the theme “Uma Gamiton, Mag-uuma Atong Dayegon,” the month-long farmer festival celebration is organized to acknowledge the noble contribution of the farmers through their bountiful harvest for the city and the whole Davao Region as well.

“I salute the farmers for their continued efforts in ensuring quality food not only for the Tagum City, for the province of Davao del Norte but  for the whole Davao Region as well.”

Mayor Allan Rellon of Tagum City who accepted the tractor expressed appreciation to the agriculture sector especially to Sec. Alcala for the farm equipment being donated to them. (Aggie Media Service)
