 In a consultative meeting with the Mindanao rice farmers, seed producers and millers on the proposed Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Rice Trade Liberalization Law held on February 28 in Davao City, Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel Piñol asked the public to participate in finding solutions to address the ‘adverse effect’ of the Tariffication Law.

Recognizing the efforts and contribution of the farmers and fisherfolks in Davao region, Department of Agriculture-XI (DA-XI) officially opened the 2019 Farmers and Fisherfolks’ Month celebration on Monday (May 6).

With the theme “Magsasaka’t Mangingisdang Pilipino, saludo ang buong bansa sa sipag, tibay at lakas ninyo”, the event kicks-off with a fun run among DA employees and followed by an opening ceremony in DA grounds.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol assures rice farmers of DA's support amid rice liberalization law during the Mindanaowide Consultation on the drafting of of the Implementing Rules and Regularions (IRR) on Rice Liberalization held February 28 in Davao City.

These include: improving competitiveness of rice farmers thru use of hybrid and next-generation seeds as well as farm inputs; and enhance resiliency to disasters and climate risks.

"In facing this new challenge, we will make sure that our farmers will be protected," Piñol said.
